VISION, MISSION AND CORE VALUES
Our Vision
Be remarkable! Inspire happiness, healthy living and simplicity, one guest at a time.
Every employee in every role can be remarkable in whatever job they are doing. From extending a courteous welcome, to helping guests in the aisle, to thanking employees and guests, each employee can inspire happiness in each guest they encounter.
As a company, Coborn’s, Inc. continues to find ways to encourage and inspire healthy living. We also strive to make our guests’ lives easier. By thinking ahead, by merchandising full meal ideas, by offering services, by investing in loyalty, and more, we want our guests to appreciate the ease of shopping with us.
Our Mission
To empower employee owners to create unique shopping experiences, anticipate needs and exceed expectations for our guests.
It is important that each employee is empowered to take ownership in our guest focus. By investing in our employees, their engagement naturally increases, which then is projected to our guests. Unique shopping experiences can be anything from a friendly demo station or a tip on preparing a recipe to a healthy checkout lane or an employee who hands you a coupon you didn’t realize you were missing out on. Anticipating needs ties back into the simplicity piece of our vision. By putting ourselves into our guests’ shoes each day, we can find ways to make the shopping experience smooth and comfortable. And exceeding expectations can be done by anyone, anywhere. It all comes down to our common desire to surprise and delight each guest.

Our Story Has Just Begun
1921
Coborn’s Inc. began in 1921 when Chester Coborn opened a single produce market in Sauk Rapids, MN. Eventually, Chester added dry goods and other merchandise as he tried to meet the needs of his customers and in 1936, a meat market was added. As time passed, the store continued to evolve, adding shopping carts and checkout lanes in the 1940s.
1970
The company opened it’s first liquor store in 1970. A natural compliment to the grocery stores, you will find a liquor store within or nearby almost all of our grocery locations!
1979
The company opened it’s first Cash Wise Foods store, located in Willmar, Minnesota in 1979. While the Cash Wise stores traditionally do not provide bagging services, they are priced well below conventional grocery stores, making them very attractive to a large number of consumers.
1986
Coborn’s, Inc. opened it’s first convenience store. The Little Duke’s Convenience Stores are named in honor of Duke Coborn, grandfather of the present owners. The stores, located in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, pride themselves on cleanliness, friendly service and competitive gas prices.
1991
Built in 1991, our Central Bakery production facility handcrafts a complete line of signature bakery products including pastries, cookies, donuts, breads, cakes, holiday favorites, and more!
2015-2023
Continued expansion has occurred over the past several years. Beginning with the acquisition of 4 Marketplace Foods grocery stores in Western Wisconsin in 2015, followed by brand new stores being built in Isanti, Otsego, and Buffalo, in addition to Hornbacher’s, Andy’s Liquor, Tadych’s, and Sullivan’s Foods joining the company! We are on an exciting path of continued growth and look forward to all that will come in the next several years!
