Our History
Rooted in the Midwest, Since 1921
The legacy of Coborn’s began in 1921 when Chester Coborn opened a single produce market on Broadway Avenue in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. Eventually, Chester added dry goods and other merchandise as he tried to meet the needs of his customers. In 1936, the company took another big step when the store added a meat market. A true pioneer in the grocery industry, we were the first grocery retailer in the state of Minnesota to utilize scanning at our front-end checkouts, starting in 1972. We’ve grown over the years adding additional locations, franchises, facilities, and concepts. Our footprint now spans 6 different states in the Midwest.
